Who we are
We believe every Australian deserves to understand their money.
The fine print. is a free financial education resource for Australians — covering super, insurance, property, and tax in plain English. No jargon. No financial advice. Just the facts they don’t put in the brochure.
Why this exists
Australia’s financial system is complicated by design.
Banks, insurers, and super funds profit when you don’t understand the fine print. Fees hidden in PDFs. Insurance exclusions buried on page 47. Tax deductions nobody mentions. The information exists — it’s just never been written for real people.
We started The Fine Print because we kept seeing the same pattern: Australians paying thousands more than they needed to on super fees, insurance premiums, and tax — simply because nobody explained their options in plain English.
This is our attempt to fix that. Free, independent, and always on your side.
What we cover
- Superannuation — fees, performance, insurance in super, contributions, SMSFs
- Insurance — life, TPD, income protection, health insurance, how to claim
- Property — first home buying, LMI, mortgages, refinancing, investment property
- Tax — deductions, WFH claims, investment tax, side hustles, ATO obligations
Our principles
How we work
Plain English, always
Every article is written so a 16-year-old could understand it. We never use jargon without explaining it. If it’s complicated, we make it simple. That’s the whole point.
Independent, not sponsored
We don’t accept payment from brands to mention or recommend their products. Nobody buys their way into our articles. Editorial decisions and affiliate relationships are always kept separate.
Transparent about money
We earn affiliate commissions when you compare or apply for products through our links — at no extra cost to you. This is always disclosed clearly. It’s how we keep the content free.
⚠️ Not financial advice
Everything on The Fine Print is general financial education — not personal financial advice. We explain how things work in Australia. We don’t know your income, your debts, your family situation, or your goals. For advice that accounts for your specific circumstances, please consult a licensed financial adviser or relevant professional. Read our full disclaimer →
